Tantalum wire is a kind of filamentous tantalum material, which is made of tantalum powder as raw material through rolling, drawing and other plastic processing method. The usage of tantalum wire is the largest in the electronics industry, which is mainly used in tantalum electrolytic capacitor anode lead. Tantalum wire can be divided into three categories according to chemical purity:
1. Metallurgy tantalum wire, purity 99.0% Ta
2. High purity tantalum wire, Purity 99% ~ 99.9% Ta
3. Ultra pure tantalum wire, purity 99.9% ~ 99.99% Ta
 
Tantalum wire can be divided into four categories according to performance:
1.      Chemical corrosion resistance tantalum wire
2.      High temperature resistant high strength tantalum wire
3.      Oxygen resistant fragile tantalum wire
4.      Capacitor tantalum wire
 
The capacitors tantalum wire can be divided into three categories according to application:
1.      Solid tantalum electrolytic capacitor tantalum wire
2.      Tantalum wire for tantalum electrolytic capacitor
3.      Tantalum wire with reliability index
 
The capacitors tantalum wire can be divided into three categories according to state；
1. Soft state (M), tensile strength b=300 ~ 600MPa
2. Semi hard state (Y2), tensile strength b=600 ~ 1000MPa
3. Hard state (Y), tensile strength b>1000MPa
 
It is also used in the production of tantalum foil capacitors of high oxygen resistant tantalum wire, which can be operated in a potassium dichromate and sulfuric acid solution, at a high temperature of 772 degrees and a high voltage (350V). In addition, tantalum wire can also be used as a vacuum electron cathode emission source, ion sputtering and spraying materials.
