TZM shows the best welding properties of all molybdenum alloys. Therefore TZM should be chosen for structures which incorporate welded joints. It can be welded by tungsten inert gas (TIG)-welding, see our brochure “Electrodes for TIG-welding” or by electron beam welding in vacuum.
As the welds can have large internal stresses we recommend stress-relie-ving after welding. Circumferential weld on cylindrical shapes as well as welds between sheets of large thickness variations should be avoided.
Resistance and plasma-welding are best suited for the welding of small parts(eg production of electron tubes),see SANHUI brochure “Electrodes for resistance welding”. In special cases we recommend diffusion-and friction-welding.
