The nature of tungsten

In nature tungsten occurs about as frequently as copper(tungsten approx.69 g/t in the earth crust, copper approx. 70g/t).
It has a cubic, body-centered crystal lattice and a melting point of 3410℃ (3683K)-the highest of all metals.
The German name of the element, Wolfram, was originally the name of an ore which contained tungsten. This mineral, mostly an accompanying element in tin ores, interfered with the reduction of the yield by large slag formation. The medieval miners termed the unknown companion of the ores “Wolfram”, as it devoured the tin (like a wolf).
This mineral is now termed wolframite and the metal extracted from it “Wolfram”.
The name in use today in English as well as in the Latin languages is tungsten, tungsteno, tungstene, etc., which is derived from the Swedish “tungsten” (heavy stone).
Since the beginning of this century Sanhui has been one of the most important manufacturers of tungsten. We have had many years experience in the production of tungsten and its alloys and their processing into wrought and finished products.
