The consumption of molybdenum and molybdenum alloy accounts for about 6% of total consumption of molybdenum in the world. Molybdenum has high melting point, high boiling point, good high temperature strength, wear resistant and corrosion, large thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, good hardenability and other advantages. Electronic industry often use the high melting, low expansion coefficient and lower secondary electron emission rate and other advantages of molybdenum, it is widely used in various grids of electronic tube, power supply plate and lead wire of advanced electric light source. Now the research believed that, adding a small amount of silicon, aluminum and potassium to molybdenum, this can make its secondary crystallization temperature higher 700℃ than pure molybdenum, up to 1800~1900℃, and it is widely used as heating element, heat screen etc.
Molybdenum is more widely used in processing industry. The high temperature die affected by the mechanical alternating stress and heating, it is easy to cause crack for the material fatigue. What's more, molybdenum or molybdenum alloy with small thermal expansion coefficient, strong thermal conductivity, and good high temperature strength makes the die life to be greatly prolonged. The British G.K.N company die-casting the watch shell and other delicate parts, its life can reach 5000 times, generally is 3000 times. The service life of molybdenum alloy die in the bearing production can increase 15 times more than the die of original high-speed steel and bearing steel. When you forge the difficult deformation temperature alloy in the same temperature, molybdenum alloy die can be used at 1200℃. Due to molybdenum alloy has high hardness, high resistance to heat and cold and high fatigue strength, it is commonly used as the head and mould of the seamless pipe perforator, its life is higher hundreds of times than 3Cr2W8V die steel.
In addition, in foreign countries, makes the car piston ring, cylinder body wall of molybdenum annual consumption has reached more than 600 t. Molybdenum has  high reflectivity to laser, this make it not easy damaged by the laser beam. America is developing the laser mirror with diameter 2.5m, thickness 13mm. R.M. Jones (Jouns) think that the thermal conductivity and thermal expansion properties of molybdenum is very close to quartz, so it is very suitable for making the heart of giant computer ----silicon chip package sheath. Molybdenum is also a good spraying material, which can greatly improve the spraying part corrosion resistance, and prolong the service life of parts.
