Pure molybdenum wire is used for high temperature electric furnace and electric spark machining and wire cutting processing, molybdenum piece is used to manufacture radio equipment and X ray equipment. Molybdenum has thermostability, it is mainly used in the manufacture of gun bore, the rocket nozzle and the light bulb filament support. Adding molybdenum into the alloy steel can improve the elastic limit, the corrosion resistance and the permanent magnetism.
 
Now the molybdenum wire produced and sold in China can be divided into four types:
 
1. High strength molybdenum wire: high tensile strength, good abrasion resistance, long service life.
 
2. Cold drawn molybdenum wire: use the cold production technology, which has high strength, smooth surface and good quality.
 
3. Fixed length molybdenum wire: in addition to the characteristics of high strength, it also has the characteristics of fixed length, convenient using and high utilization.
 
4. High precision WEDM molybdenum wire: due to the added elements, it has higher tensile strength, better wear resistance and longer service life.
 
The common specification of molybdenum wire: 0.2mm, 0.18mm, 0.16mm, 0.15mm, 0.14mm, 0.10mm, 0.12mm (0.2mm commonly known as the 20 wire).
